Round Pond Estate Delivers An Amazing Experience In A Beautiful Setting
by Brian Fry
I was fortunate to visit Round Pond Estate on the last day of my five day journey through California wine country. This was my first visit to Round Pond and I left wondering why it took me so long to find the beautiful gem in the heart of Napa Valley.
We were greeted warmly by our host Josh who took us through a tour of the sprawling estate vineyards, which are planted with some of the best Sauvignon Blanc vines in the Valley. Rond Pond also makes some wonderful Cabernet and Red Blends.
Josh seated us in the sunshine on Round Pond’s spectacular patio and guided us through a tasting of an impressive portfolio of wines. Here’s a look at what we tasted:
2016 Rutherford Sauvignon Blanc $29 (available in OH)
Bright and lively with fresh citrus fruits, minerality and a clean finish that awakens the palate.
2016 Reserve Sauvignon Blanc $45 (winery only)
Blended with a little Semillon and partially oak-aged to give the wine a little higher level of richness.
2015 Cabernet Kith and Kin $40 (available in OH)
Red fruits including cherry and pomegranate with a moderate spice component that adds some complexity.
2015 Rutherford Cabernet $75 (available in OH)
Deep red and black fruits with cassis and black cherry with notes of smoke and black pepper on the finish.
2015 Proprietary Red Wine $85 (winery only)
The bordeaux style blend was one of the most impressive wines I tasted on the entire trip. Good now, great in 5-7 years.
I highly recommend you add Round Pond Estate to your next wine country travel itinerary. The combination of the friendly hospitality, a beautiful setting and fantastic wines make for a wonderful experience. Special thanks to our host Josh who was a fun and knowledgeable guide.
